Last minute fun!!

Today, I was told that there was a Press conference down the street from my house. For a boxer that I am quite close with, and have been following for some time now James Toney. He has a fight coming up in December so today was the press conference. My friends Matt came along and we helped each other out. I came up with a last minute idea. That right after the press Conference is done. I would like to do some portraits with James. I spoke to his manager about it, and good friend John Aurthur. We rolled with it. Matt and I set up the lights, Then I went back to the conference and shot the rest of it. It went pretty well. We only had about 10 minutes or so for the portraits but it was enough time I think. Below are 2 of my favorite shots and the setup of them.

Messing around with strobes

Hey everyone, so lately in California there have been some really insane clouds, which is very unusual for this state. I took advantage of this and went to a friend's house and decided to use some of his strobes; try some different stuff. There is a photographer that I have been doing some research on by the name of David Hill, his stuff is extremely unique and very gritty and animated looking, so that was the theme I was trying to go for. We set up the lights and I was looking through Brandon's garage and found this really cool looking bow and arrow. I told my other friend Cooper to model as a Gladiator and he did but was distracted within minutes with actually shooting the bow and arrows into apples and water bottles nearby. My other friend Brandon wanted some shots done for the upcoming winter season, so I shot him with his snowboard gear; goggles and all. Although my friends weren't the most "experienced" models to work with, it was quite a fun little experiment and I somewhat got the look I was aiming for. I hope you enjoy.

So this was the setup that I used. Except on one of the side lights I did not have an umbrella on it, because we only had 2 umbrellas but 3 strobes.

This is my Friend Brandon and we just setup in the driveway of his house.
My Friend Cooper pretending he just got back from battle. (Yes, he was actually screaming, can't you tell with the spit in his mouth.)

TENNIS FAVORITES

So I've been really busy shooting a lot. I covered the Calabasas Challenger again for the second year in a row. And this year was better then last year. Reason being I had amazing gear thanks to Nikon. And I have learned a ton from the previous year. For example, the things I've learned in the last year 1) back grounds- I am always scouting for the cleanest back grounds I can find. The cleaner the back ground the better the photo. 2) light pockets- light pockets are awesome, they completely change the feel of a photo. It makes it more dramatic, a million times more interesting. 3) expressions- expressions in your subjects face is extremely important and can only add to the photo. the best part is everyone has different opinions on what expressions mean. IT'S AWESOME!! Well below are a couple of my favorite photos of the week. Enjoy!! and comments are welcome.

This photo represents the example of expressions and back grounds.

This photo shows examples of expressions and back rounds as well.

California's Burnin'

Today, California had 3 or 4 fires happing. Matt and I decided to shoot one that was fairly nearby. We drove around to a couple spots before we finally found a spot where we could park and still be close to the flames. It was a pretty fun time.

Awesome lighting Techniques

Ok, So the other day I was supposed to have a Photo shoot with 10x heavy weight boxer of the world, James "lights out" Toney. But he could not make it. So I shot 2 other boxers instead. Ivan and Javier. Both great fighters. Well Dustin Snipes and Matt Rosenthal helped me out on the shoot. I had a little technical difficulty in the beginning Because I lost the key too my car. So, I obviously couldn't drive to the shoot. But thanks to a good friend of mine, she took me. Anyway, the setup was fairly simple. Spray water on your subject, and make sure your background is clean. This setup was just one strobe. we had a beauty dish on the strobe.  and kept the strobe overhead of the subject and voila. If you would like to see more photos from the shoot please check out my website Jakedegolish.com
